Day 46: Eggplant Pizza Escapades

Broke the fast with more chocolate cake.

Ended the day with Eggpland Pizza at Pancakes On The Rocks. It was nice to not order chips or wedges. You definitely feel the missing cheese, and definitely add the olives. It tasted good for a once off. Ended up giving my two last pieces for my friends chips anyway, but it was worth it.  As is tradition I bought the hot marshmallow cocoa with the marshmallow on the side for use in bribery for future favours. I used to like it with dairy, but with soy it is 10 million times better. Now it tastes like a decadent lolly thta you cannot get enough of. So good. The best part of the night was when someone paid money to have Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice followed by Mc Hammers Cannot Touch This on the dukebox.

Overall a good night. If you love eggplant, a veganised eggplant pizza here is worth it. If not, there are always wedges. Or a MASSIVE garden salad sans the fetta. It looks good, but I make thos eall the time at home, so I’ll pass and go back to wedges.

Sorry this didn’t post earlier. Having some technical issues and hopefully they will be fixed soon.

Be happy 🙂

Day 28: Card Carrying Vegan (deficiency hiatus)

Taking a break from vitamins and minerals, purely because my lunch hangout ended as a dinner hangout and it only just ended and I don’t have the time to properly research and write anything about anything except Mandala.

This time I took my soon to be roomy. When we got there, it was packed. Turns out an event was on tonight. Every single table was booked for the entire night. So they pulled a spare table out and let us in anyway. I was so happy. Words cannot decribe though, i’ve never seen a restaurant so full, ever. Each table had been booked several times for different hours, and as one group left a table another group would be escorted to it, leaving not a single table bare.

We ordered a burger, a spaghetti, coconut juice and some strawberry alcholic drink. Then we waited about 45 minutes for it to arrive. In their defence, they were incredibly busy. On the plate the food looks a little small. The burger had a small salad and a handful of wedges and a creamy looking sauce that I did not get the opportunity to try. The spaghetti also came with 3 slices of garlic bread pizza, and tasted like heaven.  In your belly the size of the meal feels very fulfilling. My friend seemed fairly keen to come back again sometime less busy. Turns out if you go in a group of minimum 10, for $25/p.p. you get a set menu of deliciousness that includes unlimited pizza. Potential birthday plan?

What was missed this time was the artwork that hung on the wall last time. It was not there anymore, leaving nothing but a yellow wall behind. Other than that the restaurant is perfect: the staff go to effort to make you comfortable and have a pleasant experience, the music is good and the food and drink are made with love and attention and garnish, and every time I spend $20 or more there (it isn’t hard) I am one step closer to a free garlic bread or small pizza. My wallet is the size of a paperweight it has so many loyelty cards. It even had a fair few men in there too, though all the good looking ones were clearly taken.

Whilst there I also noticed something weird: a vegan membership card. This card is advertised as valid across 130+ online and physical stores across Australia, New Zealand and The UK. For Mandala, the place I would most use if not only use it at, I’d get 10% off. The card itself costs $50. I’d have to spend a lot of money (namely $500) just to make my $50 back, and am I really going to be saving money if I’m spending such money? Doubtful. Still the fact that this exists intrigues me. I still… I still kinda want it… must resist…

Wallet remains with no further reductions. Will investigate card further later, when I am not about to fall asleep. If it came with other, better discounts as well and a free food processor (no I will not shut up about them not until I finally have one) then at this price I may be swayed. To learn more about this card, this is their FAQ page: http://www.myvegancard.com.au/faq/

To never underestimating a vegan restaurants popularity ever again and to making bookings,

Summer Tay.
